Coaching and Teaching Artistry

I am a dedicated teacher, investing in the person as much as the art form.  I coach privately, and have worked with New York City’s most respected classical theaters as well as national tours. As a coach, my goal is always for actors to find authenticity in their work. I specialize in coaching Shakespeare, using his language to inform rhythm and nuance in performance.

As a teaching aritst, I have facilitated workshops in countless schools throughout New York City. I have served as an arts education administrator and teacher for The Public Theater, Classic Stage Company, Red Bull Theater, The Classical Theater of Harlem, and Columbia University. I am a founder of the education minded company Apocalyptic Artists Ensemble which has been connecting New York City schools with free arts programming since 2020.

Testimonials

“Alice’s innate ability to break down a text, help make it relatable, and enhance my ability to connect is unmatched. She is dream to work with, and I can’t recommend her expertise enough.“ - Tiger Brown, Beauty and the Beast International Tour

“I worked with Alice on a show where a group of 20-somethings were playing 10 year olds. She expertly melded our professional training and our sense of childlike playfulness through physical and spoken exercises that allowed us to better drop into our characters. She took time with each of us individually as well as helping to establish a group dynamic that carried us through the 6 month run of the show.” - Kelsey Pressnall, American Girl: Live!

“I had the pleasure of working with Alice as a coach on the Broadway National Tour of Bandstand. She was always fully present in the room, paying attention to every detail, choice and instinct demonstrated by the actor. In one on one discussions she was prepared and focused. My personal favorite attribute Alice brings to the table is that she is never judgmental- she operates and works from a place of love for the work. “ - Roxy York, Bandstand First Broadway National Tour

“Alice is one of the best teachers and mentors I've ever had. She has coached me through a national tour and even helped me with my audition for my current talent agency. She has opened my eyes to new possibilities in my acting and is a huge reason why I am working today.” - Laila Drew, Suffs! Broadway

“ Before commencing my first national theater tour, Alice helped find some of the nuances in character development and scene work that I wouldn’t have otherwise discovered myself. Her attention to detail offers a natural progression to a fully realized person on stage.” - Rob Clove, Bandstand First Broadway National Tour

“Alice worked as my coach for the play Romeo & Juliet and what a light she was! She knows her work and always shows up prepared and ready to go. I enjoyed bringing my role of Juliet to life with her. By providing a safe space for actors to work & learn, allows individuals like myself, to thrive.” - Dawn Clements, Pride and Prejudice (Long Warf Theater)

“Alice is an amazing teacher, and someone who deeply cares about making sure you understand the work. As someone with Shakespeare and Acting training, Alice took what I already knew of Shakespeare and helped me dive into  the language in such a way that I'm no longer intimidated.  Her passion and patience in the classroom makes her an incredible asset to have at any theater institution.”  - Andres Santiago Pina, Romeo and Juliet, The Classical Theatre of Harlem

"As an actor who booked his first Broadway national tour, the role I played was drastically different to who I am as a human being. It was daunting to tackle such a thing, and I thank god everyday that Alice Renier was there to coach me. We were able to create a character that worked for me, and allowed me to connect fully with my role, even with all of the differences. She helped me utilize every part of my energy and focus into giving the best performance possible." - Louis Jannuzzi, Bandstand First Broadway National Tour
